Turning Coinme into a household name

Coinme operates the largest licensed cryptocurrency cash exchange in the United States, powering over 21,000 physical locations to buy and sell bitcoin using cash through partnerships with Coinstar and MoneyGram. They called Sköna in August 2021 to help them create a campaign to build trust and recognition with the general public, who may lack familiarity with Bitcoin and other digital currencies.

Challenge

Coinme has a remarkable footprint by virtue of their relationships with Moneygram and Coinstar – there are more Coinme locations than Bank of America ATMs, and 90% of America lives within five miles of a location. They needed a brand awareness campaign to break stigmas around who crypto is for and promote how Coinme can be a household service for everyone.

Approach

Coinme stands out by providing instant access to digital currencies. We leaned into this differentiator and expanded on messaging around it, adopting a poster-esque, thumb-stopping design and staccato copy with key words for the audience to gravitate towards: cash and crypto, instantly with Coinme at Moneygram and Coinstar locations across the nation.

Impact

The result was ‘Cash to Crypto’ – a high-tempo video campaign with pops of Coinme color and snappy motion. Since its launch in December 2021, the pre roll ad has reached over 573,000 viewers, engaging viewers with a cross-platform video while sharing the ease, simplicity, and proximity of Coinme with its intended audience.
